Why Is Gas So High When The Price Of Oil At Walmart Is So Low?
You can buy regular oil for the same price... Isn't it the same stuff? The price of an oil change hasn't went up either. It may be conspiracy theory but I think we are being conned.

The price of gas is high because on the camodadies market there are people that speculate on the price of products.this influences gas because right now crude oil which is oil right after it comes out of the ground is at all time highs so they are speculating on it going up. Plus some of the oil producing countries do not like Americans so they raise the price. Not to mention when you have other countries like china that are using more than we are that tends to drive the price up also through suply and demand.

While most of the time i would agree that we are being conned, let me clear just a few things up. 1) the oil rigs in the southeast are not in use at the moment due to hurricane ike 2) a crap load of people in texas are traveling to get away from the hurricane are using up alot of the gas that we are somewhat lacking b/c of the SE rigs being shut down. 3) the oil you buy at walmart is synthetic, ie not made from the fossil fuels we drill from the earth, it is just a lubricant. I hope that this helps clear up some of the confusion!

They use things like Ike to get an even bigger profit from us when ever they can. Ever notice the price goes up over holidays and summertime?
But did you know that you can also make gasoline from synthetic oil as well....we did this during the early 80s, and OPEC didn't like it, so they lowered the price of oil so much that the real oil was cheaper than synthetic. Why don't we do it again? The state of Montana wants to do this--they can make synthetic oil for about $50/barrel. And Montana is also an oil producing state. No hurricane there. Maybe that's the problem....the weather is getting cold in Montana now, so that effects productivity.
Hurricane Ike has nothing to do with the price of oil. So the oil rigs may be shut down, but who cares? If it wasn't hurricane ike, the oil companies are controlling the drilling and refinery speeds, even some are shut down in the best of times, so that they can charge what they want. If it wasn't hurricane ike, there would be any number of other reasons why they can't refine/produce that much gas. Oh no, it's raining--that slows down production. Oh no, it's sunny out, that slows down production. So yes, the oil companies are taking advantage to the fact that there are oilmen in the white house. Ultimately, though, we put them there, so we have only ourselves to blame for the price of gas. Hopefully, we've learned our lesson.
