Guests can ask or answer questions on Blurtit, but guests can not give ratings or comments. Therefore, the thumbs down ratings are not conducted by guests but users. We will look into the ratings being given to your answers, and will remove the unfair ratings if there is any.

It may not have been very well thought out. Allowing "guest" on this site, did generate a lot more traffic. Although a guest cannot rate, they can certainly take up much time and effort that has to be put forth by moderators and members alike, just reporting/deleting the nonsense, profanity, offending, etc. Etc. Comments, questions and answers. I personally think, that allowing "guest" to ask questions is fine. It's allowing them to answer or comment, that is the major problem.

This Guest option is popularly used in abuse against blurters. Anyone(including some frustrated blurters) use this option for abuse.

I used to answer questions from anyone, but over period of time found the "guest " questions are the ones like " I had sex with 42 sailors in an hour - do you think I'm pregnant?" So, I "hide" the guests by clicking that box and answer member questions only.

I can't agree with you more, they are always doing it to me as well, they just don't care!!!

I think there should not be a guest part anyway, most of the time they are asking the most vulgar questions and attacking people who did not do anything wrong.

That sounds fair to me.  A guest cannot be rated, so they should not be able to post or rate.

We need to band together and help each other out. If you are not going to give a thumbs up then do not rate at all. Just because the answer is not what you want to hear it does not mean its wrong.

Logic, I'm pretty sure guests can't rate questions.  They can only ask questions.

It's a shame that a few bad apples have to spoil the whole bushel that's for sure.
  I have seen some really nice guests who are thankful for the help they get on their questions but have also seen some really lousy comments left by other guests.
  I too sometimes wonder if one or two Blurtit members use the guest to make rude remarks so they can remain anonymous.

This happened to me too, but to a smaller degree. How frustrating! I think that if you are going to give a rating you should only give a thumbs down rating on obviously wrong answers (Do flies fly? No) or offensive or mean responses, and people should have to account for why they are giving a negative response. After all, what is the point of a rating system if you can't use it to improve yourself or your answers?

I think that Guests should not be allowed to rate. Although I do think that the thumbs down is quite mean, it is also putting across our views of the answer. I do have to say though, if I dont like someones answer, I wont rate it, I just leave a comment to say that I dont agree. Like some of the health questions, for example. (Sorry 4 bringing this up!) Some of the questions about whether you should be a 32AA or something in bra sizes when you are 11? I mean, we all grow at different rates, and it is not fair for ANYONE, let alone GUESTS to rate that with a thumbs down. It is plain rude and quite horrible. I have like, 15 thumbs down, and most of those are by guests, I think there are only 1 or 2 that have been rated by actual blurters. So I completely agree with everyone else that has answered this question and I think we should do something to stop guests rating our answers.

We need a group to show the moderators that we should kick off guests. You are right, they are not true blurters, and this is proof. IF WE WERE GUESTS, you can just open the Blurtit home page and say anything we want without registering like we can curse and nobody will know us because we are guests, they would not know our personalities, so we can say bad things about moderators IF WE WERE GUESTS. Don't Guests know blurtit is free, so they can sign up if they want. WE NEED MORE REAL MEMBERS OF BLURTIT!

To be honest i never bother myself with ratings. I try to help and answer each question as best as i can. I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out the mindset of some of the raters . If i get a positive feedback of course it feels better, but i know that people see things in different ways ,so i allow for that. :)

Ok i am confused... I tried rating without logging in.. And YOU can't rate...  I think you have been rated by a member named GUEST.. What puzzles me is to HOW you knew it..?? Care to share it with me please.. For i have been rated down too .. Answers i strongly think are correct.. Obvious interest of pulling my scores down..

So, what has happened? How would one go about initiating a change in the rules here?  Is there any one in the office that cares about what the members want?  How about trying to get them to allow a "members board" that sets policy?  That would work for me.

Well, I for one, am fed up with the excessive amount of non questions, stupid and silly questions, and comments made by non members (guests). They seem to jump in and out with the most asinine, bizarre questions and then not follow up on the answers that they receive. In my opinion, these "GUESTS" are not contributing to the site, rather they are making it a more dis-interesting place to participate in.
If you are going to have a membership site, it needs to be limited to people that have enough interest in the site, to actually JOIN the group.
I wonder why we are losing a lot of "old-timers" out here, could the reason be that there are way too many SNIPERS (guests)?

It might be helpful if some of you would bother to READ (and comprehend at the same time) the replies here (of course it's plainly obvious that the actual logical replies are being ignored for some myopic reason). The lack of (heh) "logic" in this thread is astounding to say the least! Whats more, you should all be asking your self: "Why do I care so much about inconsequential e-ratings given out by complete strangers, whom I will never actually meet?" Freud would have a field day with this.

I am so for getting rid of the guests, or at least making it well known to them when they are looking at the site, they should know that any abuse will get them removed from the site. Blurtit uses ip addresses to monitor whether or not a user that has been banned is back or not. That was how it was put to me one time.
There are kids on here that are really nice kids, and they are attacked by guests as well, and it seems that reporting the guests doesn't do a thing. These kids feelings are very hurt and easily hurt when a mean adult decides to say that they asked a stupid question.
I know that people can be mean, but, here in "blurtitland" there should be less of the cruelty and more of the caring and sharing that this site is supposed to be about. Helping one another, not hurting them!!!
Something has to be done about these people doing the harm that they are doing!!!!

Totally agree. I think we should all get together and start an anti-guest group on Blurtit. If anyone agrees with my idea, leave a message in my shoutbox! Also, don't answer any of their questions and give all of them thumbs down ratings! We all need to work together on this!
