Dark matter is defined as a term used for describing the mass found in galaxies and space in general. This substance is not visible to the naked eye because there is no emission of radiation to observe it. This is the reason why it escaped deduction until recently. Now it is detected with the help of its gravitational effect. There are two types of dark matter i.e. hot dark matter and cold dark matter. It is not luminous and known because of the rotation of galaxies and clusters. It is believed that this unseen matter consists of more than 30% of the entire universe.
This substance is believed to have been associated or related with the formation of galaxies in the Big Bang. The composition of dark matter is still unknown but it is assumed that it may include many new elementary particles. The dark matter has been mentioned in several work of fiction particularly science fiction. The dark matter in fiction and video games often has or possess extraordinary and magical properties.
