In the mid-1800s, persecuted members of the Church of Latter-day Saints -- commonly known as Mormons -- left the U.S. Midwest for parts unknown in the West.
Faith founder Joseph Smith settled his people in the valley that is now Salt Lake City, Utah. Faced with the need for a big workforce to create agriculture in the hostile desert, Smith declared that God now allowed men to take multiple wives, known as polygyny.
Several of today's Mormon faiths illegally practice both polygyny and polyandry, marriage to more than one man.
It is estimated that there are about 60,000 Mormon polygamists in Utah, despite the fact that it is illegal. A 1998 poll by the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper found that 35 percent of Utah's population think that polygamists should not be prosecuted.
The laws that were written against polygamy are basically restrictions on consensual sensuality, which cannot be prosecuted.
Polygamy was practiced openly until 1890 by the LDS church, which made a show of abandoning it in order to get Utah statehood.
It wasn't until a second manifesto about 20 years later that the church started excommunicating new polygamists. Existing polygamists were granted amnesty by the state government, and were allowed by the church and the state to continue living in polygamy until they died.
Since then, the LDS church has taken an intolerant stance against anyone who publicly admits that they practice polygamy -- but looks the other way if they are discreet.
In a small Utah town in late 2006, a prophet of a very conservative offshoot of the LDS church was arrested for arranging the marriage of a teenage girl to an already-married, much older man. That trial is still ongoing.

NO. Polygamy is illegal, and the original, true L.D.S. Church banned polygamy in the last century. There are renegade groups, some good , but most are not, that still practice polygamy, they call themselves Mormons, but Mormons put a high priority on keeping the laws of the land!

I think that if it is between adults it should be left alone I mean in some states they are now allowing gays to get married so why should one be allowed and another not be allowed
