    Do Women Really Talk More Than Men?

    Yes they do. On average a woman will say 7000 words a day. A man will say just 2000. Research suggests that the average woman will speak three times as many words as the average man and the reason for this is because men have a slightly different physiological balance than a woman, so it's not really a man's fault if he isn't as talkative as you would like him to be.
    For women, talking is akin to thinking aloud. For men, it is rarely therapeutic to talk about their feelings, which in turn makes it harder for them to communicate. Men evolved from hunters and hunters do not talk ~ otherwise it would scare off their prey. Women on the other hand were gatherers and to gather involved talking and sharing of information.
    As we have evolved, so we have continued to be different with our communicational skills, which is why women really do talk more than men do.

      No, Mark Liberman dissected this claim, and found that it was a claim that was thrown around a lot, and spread but the literature fails to support it. Most of the studies found similar lexical counts, or that men talked more.
