Why is limestone special and what is it made up of?

    It has a lot of calcium carbonate in it.  CaCO3 Limestone is used to make mortar and cement.  I remember when I was a kid my mom sent me out to find limestone and gave me some vinegar.  When you drip acid on limestone it will fizz and make CO2.

      Limestone is a common sedimentary rock composed primarily of the calcium carbonate mineral, calcite (CaCO3). Limestone constitutes approximately 10 percent of the sedimentary rocks exposed on the earth's surface.
