The Millennium Stadium is located in Cardiff in Wales. It is the national stadium of Wales. It is mainly used as the venue for the home international matches played by the Welsh national association football (soccer) and rugby union teams. It was previously known as Cardiff Arms Park. The Millennium Stadium was the largest stadium in the United Kingdom with a seating capacity of 74, 500, until it was overtaken first by the renovated Old Trafford (home ground of the English Premier League soccer club Manchester United) and then Twickenham Stadium, the home of the national rugby union team of England, which has a seating capacity of 82, 000.
The Millennium Stadium is owned by Millennium Stadium Plc, a subsidiary of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU). The construction of the stadium cost the WRU approximately 126 million pounds. It was opened in 1999. It is one of the five-star-rated football (soccer) stadia in Europe, according to the UEFA accreditation. It is the only UEFA-accredited five-star-rated football stadium in Wales.
