You will normally have spent an hour or so before your test with your instructor, who will provide you with a final lesson. They will talk you through what you may be asked to do and ensure that you are confident and calm.

Once you get to the test centre you will park the vehicle and enter the building, where you will be asked to sign in and register your test appointment. The examiner will ask you to provide proof of identity and take you outside to your vehicle.

You will be asked to read a number plate from at least the minimum distance required. They will then ask you two questions about vehicle safety and maintenance ~ if you answer one or both of these questions incorrectly you will receive a fault (also known as 'minors'). These questions are know as the 'Show Me, Tell Me' element which is a newly introduced part of the examination.

The test will begin and you will be instructed to demonstrate a variety of elements you have learnt in your lessons. If you commit a serious or dangerous driving fault or receive more than 15 faults you can fail your test. You must drive safely ~ the examiner may halt the test altogether if they feel you are driving too dangerously.
