Does Smoking Marijuana Actually Lower Sperm Count?

My boyfriend was a smoker like a chimney. Could this reduce his sperm count and make it harder for me to get pregnant?

Yes, it can decrease your sperm count, drastically might I add. It can never make you sterile and the effects are never perminent. As for brain cells, they're totally fine. Marijuana does absolutely no harm to the brain or body. Cigarettes and alcohol are more dangerous than marijuana.

My fertility doctor told me that it does - may be one of the many reasons we needed a fertility doctor.  We did conceive, but my daughter, who is turning 10  has had problems since birth.  I blame the pot smoking of my ex-husband.  She has severe food, plant and animal allergies and now has developed high Anti Nuclear Antibodies (ANAs) - a precursor to Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis and other bad things. In hindsight, I should have insisted he be off any drugs or alcohol, but he probably wouldn't have listened anyway.

Yes it could not to mention possibly sterile. Its easy to get checked good thing he stopped or there would be other issues like losing brain cells. Health problems etc.

Marijuana has been shown, recently in a controlled study ( the control were non smokers who had fathered a child) to lead to some possible fertility issues. The smokers had less total ejaculate volume, had sperm which swam too fast at first and were "burnt out" too soon, and there seems to be an interference with enzymes in the acrosome (e.g. The sperm is having a hard time latching on to the egg).

I smoke, and I'm glad that there's less of a chance for my GF to get pregnant!
