What Is Virtual Memory In Computer?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

In Computer Some Operating System(OS) enables a process to use a RAM address space that is independent of other processes running in the same system, and use a space that is larger than the actual amount of RAM present, temporarily relegating some contents from RAM to a disk, with little or no overhead. And that is the Virtual Memory.

Virtual Memory is fragmented RAM and may also expend onto the hard drives.  Although the memory is fragmented, it actually appears to the application programs as if it was contiguous.  Virtual Memory uses the paging file in order to expand onto the hard drives hence a bigger paging file means a bigger virtual memory.
