What Is Honolulu Magazine?

Honolulu Magazine is a publication which covers the city of Honolulu, which is located in the state of Hawaii in the United States of America. Its parent company is PacificBasin Communications. In addition to Honolulu Magazine, the company also publishes Hawaii Business Magazine.

The magazine was commissioned under royal charter in the year 1888 when Hawaii was a monarchy. The then ruler of Hawaii, King Kalakaua, designated the publication the ambassador of the islands to the rest of the world.

The magazine was then called Paradise of the Pacific. In the year 1966 (when the magazine celebrated its 78th anniversary), Paradise of the Pacific was rechristened Honolulu Magazine. The focus of the magazine shifted from the state's ambassador to the world to a publication for and by the people who lived on the Hawaiian islands.
