Can Consuming Locally Produced Honey Help Ease Seasonal Allergies?

Makes sense, but is it true?

Answer Question

I have heard that this is true, although I do not know it to be so.
A bee keeper once told me that people with joint pain come and let the bee sting them in the area of the pain and it helps to ease it.
There are bee pollen products on the market also.

It doesn't really matter where it was produced it still has the same effect on the allergies. Though medicinally taking something like benadryl for allergies is more effective. Hope this helps you out love.

I agree with Tiggersmom.  I am a medical assistant, I was going to suggest Benadryl, that can help.  They have a day time Benadryl that can help, that does not make you drowsy.  There are other cheap allergy medicines you can get over the counter too.  The cheapest brand is the same as brand name, pretty much, don't get confused by that.  You can also find coupons you can print off the internet to save you some money.  But if honey is working then go for it.  Good luck.

I don't think that the verdict is in yet officially. The theory is that local bees pollinate local plants...the same plants you may be allergic to.  When you consume their resulting honey, you are ingesting minute particles of the plant allergen. It may be that your body will start to recognize these allergens as harmless and so not release histamines to ward them off. This is the theory of immunotherapy.

Yes.......It's a natural desensitizing.  The local pollens are collected by the bees and made into honey.  If you use a local honey daily for 6 months, you begin the desensitizing process.  It's been used for centuries.

I've tried it with limited success but there is certainly a lot of testimonials out there to support the opinion that it does ease seasonal allergies.
