How Did Ruby Wax Get Into Comedy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Ruby Wax is an American comedian, born in 1953 and who made her name known as part of the alternative comedy scene in the 1980s.

She started her career as a straight actress working at the Royal Shakespeare Company with Juliet Stevenson and it was this that helped her establish herself in the alternative comedy scene.

It was her role as a backstage interviewer at The Secret Policeman's Ball 1987, an annual charity event, that was responsible for kick-starting her career.

This led to many interview style shows where she simply met and interviewed people.  More recently, it's been celebrities that she's interviewed in her own unique style which critics have often called "abrasive" and "vulgar".

She has also worked behind the scenes in TV as well, being script editor on Absolutely Fabulous in which she also made an appearance.  She has also worked as a writer on other comedy shows such as Not The Nine O Clock News and Girls on Top (starring Tracey Ullman).
