When Was Little Women Adapted Into An Opera?

    Little Women was adapted into an opera in 1998, American composer Mark Adamo. It was commissioned and introduced by the Opera Studio of Houston Grand Opera in March 1998.
    Little Women was opened to critical acclaim and the first two performances itself prompted General Director, David Gockley to declare that it was destined to become an American classic.
    The opera was published in May 1998 by G. Schirmer. In September 2000, the premier recording was broadcast on National Public Radio. There have been over 35 distinct productions, professional and academic, domestic and international, from the time of the world premiere. 29th August, 2001 marked the American television premiere on PBS's Great Performances, and on August 28, 2001 the world premiere recording was released on Ondine.
