    Assign is transitive verb in English. It can take the endings –signed, -signing and –signs in the past tense, present continuous and present tense respectively. It has six different meanings. One of the meaning is: to designate or to choose something for a specific purpose. Example of this: We were assigned just two days to complete the project. When someone is assigned (to) something, he is selected or appointed for a duty or office. Example: John was assigned the post of manager.

    When something is assigned to someone, it is generally given as a work or a task. It can also mean allotting some work to someone. Example: The professor assigned us a project on PAN. The verb Assign can also mean 'to attribute' or 'to ascribe' something. Example: The students cleared the mess of books by assigning them to different categories. Assign is 'to transfer something like property, rights or interests of a person to another'. When a person or a unit especially, military unit is assigned under particular command, that person or unit is usually positioned there.
