What Is The Daily Allowance For Carbohydrate Grams?

My doctor has recently put me on a low carb diet and told me to investigate and choose either South Beach or Weight Watchers but did not give me much information on carbs itself. Please help as I am getting fatter by the week

        That's calories, not carbohydrate.

If you ARE trying to lose weight, 20 - 60 grams are recommended depending on your level of activity. However, certain types of carbohydrate have many beneficial Pythochemicals and fiber so eating some (within the allowance) is fine as long as they are not refined (processed) carbohydrates. For weight loss and health, get your carbohydrates from natural sources such as (preferably organic) fresh non-starchy vegetables and low-carb fruits such as berries.
