They could actually be homeschoolers, which is legal in many places.

'Bunking off' is not an American term; we call it 'skipping school'. I know that homeschooling is much more prevalent in the U.S. than in the U.K. for example.

Instead of calling their school authorities, Try to call their parents and inform them first about it.

This is a tricky one, because bunking off school is one of those things in every school kid's life that should be done from time to time. However, if this is frequent and if they are smoking or drinking or anything else that might not be a good thing, you should perhaps think about telling the school where they hang out.
I suppose it would be difficult if they just hung out reading books or something, somehow, that might be considered an alternative education.

On the other hand, its none of your business to get your noses stuck into at the same time. It's almost as if you are spoiling their fun, didn't you ever bunk off school a little, just for fun? I don't know anyone who didn't at some point in their school career?

I would advise you not to approach them though. You could get into more trouble than they are!

Here in California we have year round schools, so some kids are in school during the summer and others are off the month of February, for example.

There is also home-schooling. I never did hear the term bunking before. You do not mention the country or ages of the kids and if you know them personally.

I would not suggest contacting school authorities as you are not well informed to make that call and do not have all the information pertaining to the kids. You need the facts before you can get involved and destroy a family.
