I have a male and a female, the male has been spayed. I have no idea which one is doing it or why. Also, a related question - how do I get the urine smell out of carpet and washable items?

Here is what you need to do, when you see one of them urinating make them site in the liter box for 1-2 mins. After some time this makes them think that when they pee they go and wait in the liter box, soon something will go off in their heads and first they go to the box, when they urinate just anywhere it 80% of the time is because they are to lazy to go by the box. (to get out the urine smell is easy just go to a store like petco or sams club and any brand name product will just about do it)

IT sounds like to me that one of them just dont like the way that your partner smells. Also I don't know if you know or not but they can hold grudges against you and they do get jealous. I would seriously suggest spending quality time with both your cats one on one and after awhile this should stop. Resolve has this great pet and Oder for urine stains and it is AWESOME I have used it because of my cat when we first moved to our apt. But now I use it on a lot of other stains as well. It gets both the stain and smell out.

Dear Justjaeda, no matter how much you clean your cats' dirt, the problem will never end. Cats seems to be very stubborn. The best way to get rid of that unnecessary cleaning job of yours is to get rid of your pests...I mean your pets, if you have the heat to do that. If you wish to get rid of them, please bring them to a very far place where they have no way of knowing their way back, or else you'll deal with the same problem again.
