Guyana officially known as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana is the solitary nation state of the Commonwealth of Nations on the mainland of South America.
It is positioned towards the north of the Equator but in the tropics and has coast on the Atlantic Ocean. It shares its borders with Suriname to the east, Brazil to the South-west and south and Venezuela to the west.
