    Guyana officially known as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana is the solitary nation state of the Commonwealth of Nations on the mainland of South America.

    It is positioned towards the north of the Equator but in the tropics and has coast on the Atlantic Ocean. It shares its borders with Suriname to the east, Brazil to the South-west and south and Venezuela to the west. Guyana is said to be the only South American nation to have English as the official language.

    The total population of this region according to the census conducted in the year 2002 was estimated to be 751,223 and the total area of this region was 214,969 square kilometer. The population density was said to be 3.5 per square kilometre. The capital of Guyana is Georgetown.
