After prior unsuccessful attempts, The Walt Disney Company finally got the ownership of the Muppets in 2004 except for the ones which appeared on Sesame Street as they were earlier sold to the Sesame Workshop. The show has been so famous that the Muppets appearing on it are treated like celebrities. They have made appearance at The Academy Awards and done small cameos in movies like Rocky 3 and An American Werewolf in London.
