Walter Richard Sickert was a British Impressionist painter. He lived during the nineteenth century in Bath, England. He was a cosmopolitan and an eccentric by nature. These traits are clearly evident in his paintings. He preferred common people and urban scenes for his paintings. He studied at King's College School and later continued to study art under James McNeil Whistler. Then he met Edgar Degas who had a powerful influence on Walter's own work. His paintings are quite popular.

Patricia Cornwell, a contemporary author claimed that Walter Sickert was the infamous serial killer who terrorized Britain during the nineteenth century. She has expounded this theory in detail with her arguments to prove her claim in her non-fiction work Portrait of a Killer – Jack the Ripper: Case Closed. The best known work of Walter Sickert is Ennui. He was married three times.
