Karate is a very old traditional martial art that was developed in China and Japan. It involves all sorts of striking features such as punching, kicking, elbow strikes etc. I am learning Karate these days at my local karate school. As I am still a novice, they are teaching me Kihon or the basics or fundamentals of karate.

Ask anyone where Karate, Judo, Aikido, Hsing Yi, Bagua, Taichichuan or any fighting system started and you'll get just as many different answers. However and if you are a spiritual person (bible scholar) then all things came through Noah and his family. Now India has a ancient form of systemized fighting, and did China, as did Okinawa, as did Japan, as did many other nations. However...if it worked, they lived, and it was incorporated into fighting. Karate-do was born combining Kakutojutsu (fighting martial arts), which had been studied in Okinawa 500 years ago, and Kempo, which was introduced from China. By combining all known defensive techniques, they invented Toshukuken (The Hand Protecting the Body). The progression continues!

The word "karate" did not exist in martial art circles until Okinawa masters brought it into existence.

Yes, I am "INTO" karate...45 years. My advice for longevity is to not do as the "health clubers" do. They go great guns every night for 2-3 months...then get burned out. Soon you hear... "I'm tired tonight, I've got other pressing things to do, I don't feel well, etc.

Better to go 2 times a week for 45 years then everyday for 2-3 months. Do other things like baseball, football, etc. Make karate a "way" of life...but not so it's all demanding. Peace!
