What Is Cassio's Attitude To Othello?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cassio's attitude to Othello is consistent, from the first time he refers to him as "our great captain" to his last words to Othello when he discovers that his leader had suspected him of an affair with his (Othello's) wife: "dear general, I did nver give you cause."  Cassio shows nothing but love and admiration for Othello; he admires him as a man, a soldier and a leader, and when Othello dismises him it is clear that he as much worried about losing his friendship as about losing his post.

You could say that Cassio's great admiration for Othello is the best emotion he displays. He is arrogant towards Iago (especially when drunk) and treats his mistress Biana carelessly and unkindly. He shows a strong admiration for Desdemona; there may be an attraction there (Iago certainly thinks so, and he is the most acute character in the play) but it is clear that his friendship for his general comes first.
