What Does Stymie Mean?

A stymie usually addresses to an ancient rule in the game of golf. Before the year 1951, in tournament play, if the ball of a player was blocked by another player's ball, but had a distance of more than six inches from it, then the offending player's ball was not lifted.

In its place the other player would try to slice or draw the put around the obstruction. If the payer was unsuccessful in this act, and his ball hit his rivals, then the ball would be played as it is.

Then it was on the opponent if he wished to put from the same position or would like to choose another angle. It is said that Golf was initially started from the Netherlands, and has been played for five centuries in the British islands.
