    Nisbet, Nisbett, Nesbit and Nesbet, derive from the old Barony of Nesbit in the parish of Edrom in Berwickshire.
    Wiliam de Nesebite witnessed  a confirmation of the townlands of Nesbite to the priory of Coldingham by Patrick, first earl of Dunbar.

    The surname was taken to Sweden in the sixteenth century by Scottish settlers to that country and there are still descendants of those settlers there to this day.
    Alexander Nisbet 1657-1725 was famous as a herladic writer.
    John Nechisbet was a burgess of Glasgow in 1649.

    James Nesbit wasthe translator of the Bible into Scots.
