Who Was Patrick Pearce?

    Patrick Pearce was one of the great figures in modern Irish History.
    He was born in 1879, the son of a monumental sculptor from England.
    He was educated at university and qualified as a lawyer. He studied Irish language and education.

    By 1903 he was the editor of An Claidheamh Soluis, the Journal of the Irish League.
    He founded a boarding school for boys- St. Enda's.
    pearce was a strong supporter of Home Rule for Ireland and read much about revolunionaries including Wolf Tone.

    He was a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood.
    He was a member of the Council which planned the Easter Rising in 1916, travelling to Berlin to enlist the help of the Germans in the fight against Brititsh rule in Ireland.

    Pearce was captured and sent to Kilmainham Goal with other leaders of the Rising.
    He was executed on the 3rd May 1916 and is said to have met his end bravely.
