If I Update My Itunes With A Newer Version Of The Software Will The Existing Files Be Deleted?
I'm thinking of updating my itunes, but don't want to take the risk of losing music files occupying 6 GB space.

No, if your update if from i-tunes, updates of infrastructure will not destroy your current files. But always be sure your software is updated and that backup is performed prior in the case you should experience technical glitches in upload and installation of those updates.
