    Several things, the most prominent of which are:

    In the world of Computers a bot is a program with human like characteristics that is used mainly to perform repetitive and monotonous tasks. Practically they can be programmed to respond to e-mails, for instance a query from any visitor to a website can get an automatic "we will get back to you" response using a bot program. Their increasing use in crime and the potential damage they can and are causing has led to bots being banned in over a hundred countries.

    In biological terms it is the name given to the larva of a botfly.

    In commercial terms a BOT agreement is the abbreviation for Build Operate Transfer contracts. Where one party usually of foreign origin undertakes to build say a petrochemical plant for a domestic firm, runs it and profits from the sale of the product and then transfers the plant after a said period to the domestic concern.

    It is also an abbreviation for "The Bank of Thailand", "Air Botswana", "British Overseas Territory", "Balance of Trade" etc.
