The Marquess of Stauton is angry over his father for choosing a bride without his permission and he does not want to marry the woman chosen by his father. So, he puts up advertisements for a dull and plain governess for his fake children, so that he can find a female to who he can marry. He plans to show the woman to the family and then leave her after providing lots of money to survive. Charity Duncans agrees to work according to the plan devised by him as she is in desperate need of money to support her family which consists of her brothers and sisters.
