What Kind Of Grafts Do Hair Transplant Surgeons Use?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The most common type of hair transplants involved punch grafts, mini grafts and strip and slit grafts. The principle of each is the same – small pieces of hair bearing scalp are taken from one part of the head and transplanted to another. The difference is in the size and shape of the donor scalp areas.

Round-shaped punch grafts usually contain about 10-15 hairs. The much smaller mini-graft contains about two to four hairs; and the micro-graft, one to two hairs. Slit grafts, which are inserted into slits created in the scalp, contain about four to10 hairs each; strip grafts are long and thin and contain 30-40 hairs.

The surgical procedure is a painstaking and careful process and several sessions may need to be arranged if a large area of baldness is to be treated. Healing is required in between, so the whole process can take up to two years.
