I would prepare a set of different snacks like crisps, ommelettes, seafood, sandwiches and pies for the starters and then a meal that is easy to take away and still tastes good when cold in case you can't make a BBQ.

I would bring all sort of picnic chairs and tables, an umbrella, a tent in cases someone wants to have nap, blanquets to lie down on the grass and lots of outdoor games to play.
I wouldn't forget the playing cards and the drinks!

Preparing is the hardest part and I do one every year what I do is fire up the old grill and smoke a brisket slice it thin and allow each person to put sauce or just eat it off thr grill, a big picnic favorite is fried chicken or weiners and hamburgers, potato chips, potato salad without mayo use mustard and sugar recipe, cookie tray, cooler of variety of soda and lots of water go to a park shelter no hauling around chairs of course dominos and cards must be there but turkey legs and brats, sausage all easily grilled and hard to mess up.
