What Is The Meaning Of An Episode In The Movie "Forrest Gump", A Lady Dropped Her Book, And Forrest Picked The Book, Saying "ma'am, You Dropped Your Book"?

I like this movie, have watched it for many times. But couldn't figure it out. Could anyone give me some suggestion? Thanks

I believe it was during the civil rights movement, when George Wallace was governor.
I believe the meaning they were trying to get across was that Forrest did not see any difference between the races. Blacks and whites were equal in his mind and he unwittingly was setting an example for others to follow.
    I especially liked that scene.

Yea, although Forrest did not know what the big deal was about the black student, and when he asked the boys, they told him that they were letting blacks into the school, he didn't get angry or upset. It didn't bother him. He saw that girl as another human being. I love this movie. I used one of the scenes to perform in front of some agents. I'm trying to get into acting. I cried watching this movie, even to this day. It is very deep and meaningful
