How about always leaving the leash where the dog can see it, and take the leash with you wherever you go, so the link between Leash! I am going for a walk! Is broken.

It is their clue that they will have fun - they know that they get to go somewhere when they see the leash. Some dogs understands when they heard the word walk - their ears goes up and they will confirm that if people start to walk around the house to look for their shoes - they will start walking too. They will confirm it if the person they know who is in charge of getting the leash from its hiding place and take the leash out.
What we do, my and my family, we just motion to each other a clue and we don't execute for a while after we agree (although the dog is already have his eyes open wide at this point). My daughter is the person in charge for the leash - so she quitely get the leash very quickly and quietely put it in her pocket. Then one at a time we put on our walking shoe and sit around for a while until we are all ready to go. Then "Lets Go" is being said. The dog sometimes is so confused he looks like "What? Are we going? Really?". And you know what's going on - we are all amused at this time.
