One of the greatest risks to take is to be honest with yourself and your feelings.  You fear the risk of being rejected.  I say you go out on a limb and take that risk and tell him how you feel.  If he does not return your feelings, at least you know that he wasn't meant for you in the first place and you will find someone else who is and not waste your time.
