Taipei basically is the capital of Taiwan, and is an Island located towards East Asia. "Taiwan" is often applied to address the territories managed by the Republic of China.
The chief island of Taiwan, which is also known as Formosa is situated towards East Asia off the shore of mainland China, south of Japan and towards the north of Philippines. It shares its borders with the Pacific Ocean towards the east, with the South China Sea towards the south and the Luzon Strait, to the west by the Taiwan Strait and to the north by the East China Sea.
The island is approximately 394 kilometres in length and 144 kilometres in width and comprises of steep mountains which are covered by tropical and subtropical vegetation.
