My Cat Has A Few Scratches On His Ear, It Is Very Red. How Can I Treat Him?

Theo likes to sneak out of the house. He has several cuts I think he got outside. One is in between the flaps of skin on the side of his ear. It is red. I cleaned it with alcohol swabs and put neosporin on it. What else should I do?

Cats who go outside can get cuts and scratches. Scratches and inflammation can be due to encounter with thorny bushes and fight with other cats. You have to wash the affected area first with the antiseptic lotion designed for pets like per oxide. Then apply Hibiscrub which is a antimicrobial and can be helpful for mild infection. You can also use neosporin but be careful about its dosage because excess dose can be harmful for cats. If there is swelling with scratches the visit to vet is necessary.
