    Gosh, where do I begin!

All of my holidays in sunny places have been brilliant. It really does depend on your personal preferences, for example many people don't just want a beach and a room - they might need activities and days out to keep them occupied.

If you have a family, you'll probably appreciate the provision of some sort of kids club at least - and the nannies will come in handy for moments when you and your partner would like some quiet time.

There are so many wonderful destinations across the world to find beautiful sunshine and a relaxing way of life. The phrase "getting away from it all" could be relevant to some of these lovely places:

The Mediterranean - whoever designed the world was pretty clued up about how it would evolve. They certainly knew that European countries with rubbish beaches and pants weather would need somewhere to retreat to. Bingo! Placing a huge pocket of sea between the grey skies of the continent and neighbouring Africa was pure genius. Most trips by plane take between 2-5 hours and there is plenty of choice - from small greek islands all ending in 'os' (think Skopelos, Kos, Zakynthos, Paxos etc) to the further reaches of the Med which offer the charming island of Cyprus. Don't forget one of the highlights of the Med, the coolest piece of footwear in Europe - Italy's boot. Culture, food and history enrich Italy as a fabulous place to visit, with great beaches and a nice way of life to top it all off.

You could also stretch a little more distantly to find sunshine - there is a real gem the other side of the world too, known as the Caribbean! Just like the Med, it sits between two continents and is made up of many small islands and a couple of larger ones (Cuba and Haiti). Most of these islands are either Hispanic or colonial - and all offer different types of experiences unique to themselves. Barbados, Jamaica and Cuba offer the larger-than-life all inclusive brightly coloured package, whilst a little more toned down (but still excellent) islands like St Lucia and St Kitts and Nevis offer a small but perfect slice of paradise.

If you are worried about cash, getting to somewhere with a nice lot of sunshine can be a little more limited - but don't fret! France is perfect, with a diverse landscape that includes mountains and beaches - the best of both worlds. Spain is really cheap as chips (if a little spoilt by the stereotypical Essex Retirement clan).

I really hope you find some nice sunshine, enjoy and relax every minute of it.
