What Does Distraught Mean?

    Distraught means to be severely agitated or despairing, especially over an emotional battle or situation. "I am very distraught because of the run in i had with my boss." it's from Middle English, an alteration of distract. So, to be distraught is to be distracted, although as a definition of distraught, distract is now obsolete. It's first attested use was in 1393.
