You cannot compare a Series 1 Land Rover with a modern day car. It's apples and oranges. Remember that some of the oldest models are now nudging 60 years old.
As an everyday run-around, the Series 1 isn't very practical and, with a cruising speed of 45 mph to 50 mph, you will be struggling to keep up with other traffic. And they aren't exactly comfortable for long journeys either, for that matter.
The Series 1, it has to be remembered, was envisaged by its designers as a workhorse for farmers, not a motorway cruiser. Hence it is happiest tootling along off-road.
If you do get your hands on a Series 1 Land Rover it will either be a wreck in need of extensive ground up restoration, a runner but in need of some work for its MoT, or a pristine concours example for which you will need to pay top money and probably not won't to get dirty.
