You can run a 12/2 or 14/2 romex (size depends on breaker amperage) from the switch location to the light or to the outlet it is currently plugged into.  Or you can run wire from the outlet to the light and keep your outlet freed up so you can use the duplex receptacles for other needs.

I would go for the third option:  Turn off power.  Run the proper sized cable from the outlet (hook blk and what to receptacle screws, plus ground) to  a new junction box installed near the light.  Now run a wire from the switch box to the new box near the light.  In the new box, hook the white from the outlet to the silver screw on a new outlet. Hook the black from old outlet to the black that goes to the new switch.  Hook the white coming from the switch to the brass screw on the new outlet.  Hook up ground wires, install cover and plug light into new outlet.  Hook blk and white to terminals on new switch (doesn't matter which wire hooked where-but hook only the ground wire to the green ground screw.  Turn on power and try out.

The easiest, quickest way is to run a wire from the new switch/new box location to the existing box for the  outlet you have been plugging into.  Power off!  The outlet can be split into an upper half/lower half by removing a breakout tab on the brass side of the outlet.  You hook the wires from the new switch, blk to the incoming hot wire connection on the outlet and white to the isolated brass screw (isolated because you broke the tab out earlier).  One half on this outlet is now controlled by the switch, the other half is hot always.  Hook up the switch as described earlier.  Turn on power, plug light into the isolated receptacle half and try out.  Neither of these options are as difficult as writing it out step by step make it appear.  If you want to make it even simpler, get one of the plug-in radio signal controlled switches on the market now.  About $ 12.  No wire to install.  Plug in their sending unit, plug the lamp into the unit and stick up the standard looking switch.  DONE
