Is It Safe To Give Dogs Ampicillin?
Dog has been feeling warmer than usual and has swelling in one of her joints
Answers
It is safe to give ampicillin to dogs at a dose of 10-15 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Gastrointestinal side effects can occur.
I would not start your dog on any medication without having an examination done by a veterinarian. This may not be related to infection and so antibiotics would not be appropriate. Trauma can cause swelling and antibiotics will not help.
Many of the tick borne diseases can cause multiple joint swelling-your veterinarian can help rule out these diseases. Ampicillin is not the correct treatment for tick borne diseases.
