What Does Seized Mean?

    Seized is the past tense of the verb seize. When someone grabs something suddenly or forcibly he is said to have seized it. For example: cops seized a revolver from the robber. It means to snatch. If something seizes your mind, you understand it completely or your mind grasps it. One can even seize an opportunity. It means to possess something. Seized could also mean captured or taken into custody.  Example: they seized illegal arms from the gang of smugglers. Here, seized means confiscated or took forcible possession of.

    Seize could mean 'to overwhelm physically or mentally'. For example: the bomb- blast seized the minds of people. He was seized with an acute ailment.
