The very first dinosaur period is called the Triassic period. While there were no dinosaurs during the early Triassic period it paved way for their evolution during the infamous Jurassic period through amphibians and reptiles which evolved at that time. Roughly estimated to be 248 million years ago, the Triassic period follows the formation of the super continent of Pangaea. The beginning and the end of the Triassic period which is the first of the tri part periods of the Mesozoic era are marked by extinctions. In contrast both land and marine life underwent rapid evolution with the first flowering plant and the first flying vertebrates which are attributed to this period.
The climate during this period was generally hot and dry during summers and cold during winters. Also because of the massive land mass of the Pangaea the weather was largely unaffected by the seasonal variations that we are used to which are bought about by the world's oceans. What is also worth knowing is that during this period the Polar Regions were moist and temperate.
