Can You Tell Me About The American Actress Alice Terry?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Alice Terry, the American actress was born on the 29th of July 1899. She was born Alice Frances Taaffe and started her career in the Film Industry when she was just 15 years old. This was when she had just moved with her family from Indiana to Los Angeles.  She began her career by working both as an extra as well as a film editor.

As one of her first roles as an actor (in 1916) she played several unsuccessful roles including that of a peasant and another as a German soldier. Her confidence was practically nil by the time that she met Rex Ingram, the handsome Irish director and in 1921 they got married. During her lifetime, she appeared in thirty-nine films including The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, The Prisoner of Zenda, The Conquering Power and The Great Divide.

Famed for her patrician blonde beauty it was a relatively unknown that she was in reality a redhead who chose to cover it up (very successfully) with a wig! She was perfectly suited to star opposite Latin lovers like Valentino, Novarro, and Moreno as her serene beauty contrasted with the fiery Latino look. She died of Pnemonia in 1987.
