How Do I Lower Cholesterol?

Answer Question

4 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

All cholesterol is not bad. Cholesterol plays an important role in the synthesizing of vitamin D; this keeps all the body hormones in balance. A cholesterol level that is lower than 180 or higher than 240 could be termed as unhealthy.

High cholesterol leads to heart diseases which are officially the world's deadliest killers. Excessive cholesterol clogs the arteries and makes the body work harder to pump blood to the heart. Lowering cholesterol requires a commitment to lifelong fitness. Food, exercise and rest are the holy trinity when it comes to fitness.

An indicative list of cholesterol rich food will include butter, cheese, meat skins, refined sugar that is present in most sweets, eggs and cashew nuts. Smoking is another bad cholesterol enhancer. Food that is free of cholesterol should be incorporated in the daily diet. This includes whole grain products, fruits, green vegetables, oat meals and certain fish. Aerobic exercise should become a part of the daily routine. Aerobic exercises are walking, jogging and climbing the stairs.

Eat cooked oatmeal every morning for a month, with cinnamon on it.   Also make some changes in your life style such as cutting out fried foods and get some walking in everyday.  The oats in the oatmeal will help to lower your cholesterol.  Walking also helps your heart.  If you somke : STOP because smoking can clog your arteries

The most effective natural way to lower cholesterol is to eat whole grain cereals, particularly oats. The reason for this is cholesterol is used to make bile, a digestive fluid. Normally most bile is reabsorbed from the intestine but bile is trapped by the fibres of whole grain cereals, does not get reabsorbed, and passes out the other end. This means cholesterol has to be used to make more bile, thus reducing cholesterol in the blood.
