Is Shingles Contagious To Everyone?

My mother has recently been diagnos with shingles, My 11 month old nephew is coming over today, he has never had chicken pox and I was wondering if the shingles were contagious.

    Yes, the are very contagious. He can visit, but not come in contact with the shingles. If for some reason he does get the chicken-pox from this visit,  it is easier on the body the younger the person is that gets the chicken-pox

    This is good advice even for older individuals. I am a 39 year old female with a severe hives rash due to a medication reaction and was placed on steroids. My doctor instructed me not to be in contact with my relative who just was diagnosed with singles as the steroids suppress your immune system. I am also a person who has never had chickenpox either, so this adds an extra component. My advice is to always err on the side of caution and not expose anyone to a person with shingles.

      Only contagious when patient has pus in the blisters, if no rash or blisters they r not

        My son is 27 & has shingles.  Is it unusual for someone that age to get them?
