Programmes such as Time Team have led to a big increase in the number of people wanting to become archaeologist.
Beware archaeology isn't all like Time Team and it can be hard, low paid work.
If you're still at school it's a good idea to join a young archaeologists club. There are alot of these around UK.
If you look at The British Archaeology website it has alot of articles that might help.
Try to get some unpaid work as a volunteer. For example Grosvenor Museum, Chester often run digs and take young volunteers. Your local County Council may have a County Archaeologist who will give advice.
Studying the subject - there are many courses available throughout the UK so look at what's on offer at colleges and universities.
If you want to work in desk based archaeology or lecturing you will probaly need a post graduate qualification these days.
Be prepared to get wet, dirty and suffer from low pay symdome! It's worth it
