What Exercises Are Good For Weak Lower Back Muscles?

I did not subscribe to the 3 month rock hard training, but I am following the program. I work out in my garage and don't have all the equipment to do all the exercises especially for legs. With a weak lower back I improvise with the bent-over row, seated row and leg press. What equipment do you recommend that I get? I am 65 years old.

Well there are few exercise which you can do without any equipment like Pilates Single Leg Stretch, Swimming ( both Breast Stoke and Free Stoke), Balance on one leg and so one. If you don't know how to do these exercises then please check out the following site

But before you start to do any sort of exercise please do 5 to 10 minutes of warmup and stretching exercises.

    Have fun.

Start out with crunches, with feet supported up on a chair, bed, or something high.  With hands behind the head supporting the neck, lift slightly, just enough to raise up the shoulders, then back down again.
When you get stronger, then pull your knees towards your head as you lift.  After that, side-to-side, lying on the floor, bend your knees and take your fingertips and going side-to-side, touch the outside of your foot in a quick motion.  Good luck......been there, am there forever after two back surgeries.

Oh my god. I'm sorry I have to disagree & absolutely no disrespect meant. Along my studies in fitness there seemed to be a frequent debate about the benifits of crunches & abdominal training on weak lower back muscles.

Everything I found seemed to head everyone as far away from 'crunches' and similiar workouts, as possible. This website was also very helpful: Www.ptonthenet.com, it seemed to support the same theory.

Please, please check it out. Try safer compound excersices such as barbe

Barbell dead lift & continuing seated row exercises, remembering to keep your abs 'locked on' and your core activated. I've checked out 'Xarsh's' page and there is also some great stuff there, based on the superpowers of pilates bases slow-dynamic exercises.

A big ball is an excellent way to do many exercises with support.  This will help you strengthen your back without over exertion. I recommend visiting a few gym franchises and speaking with some personal trainers to get some insight on various exercises that will help you workout your back safely.
