How Do You Hold Crappie?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Crappies are huge freshwater sunfish that are about 12 inches long and weigh a couple of pounds. There are two varieties' the black and the white crappie. The lean flesh of the crappie is delicious and is usually broiled or sautéed.

It is important to know that you should never hold the crappie horizontally by the lip, unless it is in a freezer or in the fry pan. The weight of the fish can cause damage to its mouth and the jaw if held horizontally. So, whilst holding the crappie, remember to hold it vertically.  While baiting for the fish, you should keep the bait a little bit above the schools of crappie. They do not move down to take bait, but will move up a foot or so. Since their eyes point towards the upside, it is easy for them to see the food above them.
