Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Wilbur Smith first developed interest in writing because of his mother's interest in romance and thriller novels. He was however never encouraged by his father to write who constantly advised him to get a real job in life. Wilbur Smith studied at Michaelhouse's Cordwalles Preparatory School and then later at the Rhodes University.

He later pursued a carrier in Journalism because of his passion towards writing. Then he left Journalism and became a Tax Accountant after being pressured by his father to do so. He married early at the age of just 24 but found himself divorced soon after. It was only then that he decided to pursue his passion and soon in 1964 his first novel When The Lions Feed was released. Wilbur Smith lives in London, England but has stated that he is inspired by Africa the most.
